I would like to thank Dakid for all the hard work he has done in COD2. Due to time constraints he will be stepping down as GOA of COD2 Battalion. He will now be at a GEN rank and part of the COD command staff.

With that being said I have promoted Plumley to GOA COD2 Battalion Commander.

I would also like to Congratulate Quicksilver on his promotion to GEN of Alpha Co.

Congrats to both of you! I have no doubt you both will do an awesome job!
Luther

With the previous COD2 promos listed, we must also look toward the platoon that I will be exiting for further leadership. Thus, Theobliz is hereby promoted to Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) and Platoon Leader of Alpha One Platoon. As well, Hanz Solo is now promoted to First Lieutenant (1LT) and will serve as Theo's right hand man. Both of these promos are going to long time dedicated members who have brought nothing but a good time and a positive, friendly atmosphere to all of us in the clan in Spearhead and COD2 alike. These gents embody the spirit of the comradely of the platoon. Thanks again for the dedication and great memories fellas! cool.gif

Sadly, I must announce that our Greatly Respected Storm has chosen to retire due to time limitations. Storm has been with OBC nearly since its start and has been responsible for the growth and success of the Euro Spearhead Battalion. He has put his heart and soul into this clan and for that we cannot say Thank You enough!!!!!!!!
Join me in thanking Storm for all his hard work and dedication and welcome him to the Rocking Chair Platoon where he will continue to play and join us on voice.
 Graham

I am sorry to see a long time gaming friend has retired but if anyone does deserved to retire it is =Storm=.  He was the one that got the NL members of OBC started and I think if he had not joined we may have not had any members beyond the UK.  I hope my friend the best and thanks for the job you have done with the clan.

Hagarr

In light of recent events in promoting a another member to a senior position to help Kop we over looked a member that had been with the clan since June 2003 a member in good standing who should have been promoted a lot sooner

Firstly the JCS apologies to Dentist for the promotion then demotion in a short space of time, had senior staff followed there own rules this oversight would not have happened

Secondly we would like to Congratulate No-Entry who has been given the promotion to the rank of General a little jump in rank but one that was well deserved

He will run the European battalion jointly along with kop

I sure you will all agree a long time overdue.

BASH

Congratulations No-Entry it was long overdue.

1965 U.S. sends first combat troops to South Vietnam

A U.S. Marine Corps Hawk air defense missile battalion is deployed to Da Nang. President Johnson had ordered this deployment to provide protection for the key U.S. airbase there.

This was the first commitment of American combat troops in South Vietnam and there was considerable reaction around the world to the new stage of U.S. involvement in the war. Predictably, both communist China and the Soviet Union threatened to intervene if the United States continued to apply its military might on behalf of the South Vietnamese. In Moscow, some 2,000 demonstrators, led by Vietnamese and Chinese students and clearly supported by the authorities, attacked the U.S. Embassy. Britain and Australia supported the U.S. action, but France called for negotiations.

We are looking for a new Banner for the www.oldbastardsclan.com website.

It must incorporate our 3 year anniversary and all the games we play at OBC.  Malaci came up with the idea of making it a contest for the members that like making SIGS and banners.

You can be mail them to admin@oldbastardsclan.com .  We will post all of them in the forums or on the website but the vote on who is the winner will be a vote by the command staff.  So you will have to please all the game commanders plus the JCS to make the most brownie points.   Malaci may state some more information because of loading time and size of screen for best viewing he is the master.  So look for notes from him for guidance or contact him at admin@oldbastardsclan.org .

All entries must be in by March 1st 2006

The winner will be awarded the Presidential Citation Medal by me.  The only way to ever get this medal is from me out of 600 + members there are no more than you can count on one hand has been give out.  The first one ever given out was to Rattler for the 2 year anniversary banner.  Make sure you beat him so he will not get a second one!

1943 Japanese begin evacuation of Guadalcanal

On this day, Japanese forces on Guadalcanal Island, defeated by Marines, start to withdraw after the Japanese emperor finally gives them permission.

On July 6, 1942, the Japanese landed on Guadalcanal Island, part of the Solomon Islands chain, and began constructing an airfield. In response, the U.S. launched Operation Watchtower, in which American troops landed on five islands within the Solomon chain, including Guadalcanal. The landings on Florida, Tulagi, Gavutu, and Tananbogo met with much initial opposition from the Japanese defenders, despite the fact that the landings took the Japanese by surprise because bad weather had grounded their scouting aircraft. "I have never heard or read of this kind of fighting," wrote one American major general on the scene. "These people refuse to surrender."
