1884 Tojo is born

On this day, Hideki Tojo, prime minister of Japan during the war, is born in Tokyo.

After graduating from the Imperial Military Academy and the Military Staff College, Tojo was sent to Berlin as Japan's military attache after World War I. Having already earned a reputation for sternness and discipline, Tojo was given command of the 1st Infantry Regiment upon return to Japan. In 1937, he was made chief of staff of the Kwantung Army in Manchuria, China. Returning again to his homeland, Tojo assumed the office of vice-minister of war and quickly took the lead in the military's increasing control of Japanese foreign policy, advocating the signing of the Tripartite Pact with Germany and Italy in 1940 that made Japan an "Axis" power. In July of 1940, he was made minister of war and soon clashed with the Prime Minister, Prince Fumimaro Konoye, who had been fighting to reform his government by demilitarizing its politics. In October, Konoye resigned because of increasing tension with Tojo, who succeeded as prime minister while holding on to his offices of army min!

We are running the custom maps on the unranked servers.

Down load all the packs if you have not got any of them before. If you got maps for the Dallas Unranked server in the

past you got the TotalBF2 Map Pack 1.exe so you will need the other 6 map packs. Two of the packs are ZIP files.

One of them does not extract to the correct folder you will see it because it has many files to unzip.

You will have to extract them to a temp folder. You then will need to copy the 3 folders in the mappackbf2mission

folder and place them in your C:\...\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels folder.

In BF2 news the Euro side is growing pretty fast. So we will be adding another platoon to D3. Our very own Bunny Hopping, Donkey boy, SuperSoldier who has been promoted to Second Lieutenant, will be leading the platoon. Well done super I know you will do a good job.

Speaking of Bunny Hopping, There is a new patch coming out for BF2. It is suppose to remove the bunny hopping and dolphin diving flaws in the game. Also the hit points will be going down on the choppers. And some other fixes. It is coming soon to a FTP server near you.

DeathTrains also has been checking out some custom maps. Be looking for those soon on the unranked server.

1940 Germans raid London

On this day, German aircraft blanket incendiary bombs over London, setting both banks of the Thames ablaze and killing almost 3,600 British civilians.

The German targeting of the English capitol had begun back in August, payback for British attacks on Berlin. In September, a horrendous firestorm broke out in London's poorest districts as German aircraft dropped 337 tons of bombs on docks, tenements, and teeming streets. The "London Blitz" killed thousands of civilians.

1941 Request made for creation of construction battalions

On this day, Rear Admiral Ben Moreell requests authority from the Bureau of Navigation to create a contingent of construction units able to build everything from airfields to roads under battlefield conditions. These units would be known as the "Seabees"-for the first letters of Construction Battalion.

1942 Germans form the Smolensk Committee to enlist Soviet soldiers

On this day, the German military begins enlisting Soviet POWs in the battle against Russia. General Andrei Vlasov, a captured Soviet war hero turned anticommunist, was made commander of the renegade Soviet troops.

Vlasov had been a military man since 1919, when, at age 19, he was drafted into the new "Red" Army to fight in the Russian Civil War. After joining the Communist Party in 1930, he became a Soviet military adviser to China's Chiang Kai-shek. Returning to Russia in 1939, Vlasov was given the 4th Armored Corps to command. He distinguished himself in the defense of Kiev and Moscow against the German invaders, even winning the Order of Lenin in 1941, and later the Order of the Red Banner as commanding general of the 20th Army.

1943 Britain surprises German attacker in the Arctic

On this day, the German battle cruiser Scharnhorst is sunk by British warships in the Arctic after decoded German naval signals reveal that the Scharnhorst is on a mission to attack an Anglo-American convoy to Russia.

Hitler's navy had posed serious threats to convoys shipping supplies to the Soviet Union since the fall of 1941. American, British, and Soviet merchant ships had suffered devastating attacks in the Arctic, mostly by German U-boats. Operation Rainbow was the German plan to attack two Anglo-American convoys as they sailed between Bear Island and the North Cape en route to the Eastern front. But Enigma, the British code-breaker, once again provided the Allies with the sensitive strategic information they needed to anticipate and prevent disaster. The Scharnhorst, Germany's 31,000-ton battle cruiser, which had already sunk the British cruiser Rawalpindi, was surprised by the British battleship Duke of York, which sank it in what became known as the Battle of North Cape.

Approximately 2,000 German sailors and crew drowned and only 36 survived.

1941 British surrender Hong Kong

On this day, the British garrison in Hong Kong surrenders to the Japanese.

Hong Kong was a British Crown colony whose population was overwhelmingly ethnic Chinese. It was protected by a garrison force composed of British, Canadian, and Indian soldiers. The British government, anticipating a Japanese attack, had begun evacuating women and children on June 30, sending them to Manila, capital of the Philippines. The Japanese had responded to the evacuation by posting troops across the Kowloon peninsula, blocking escape from Hong Kong by land.

Twas the night before mohaa. Not an OBC was shooting. They were all by there keyboards looking. They all watched with great delight as the screen light up. They were ready 2 fight. When over the speakers came a big burly burp. Then 1 brave OBC said what’s up. First came DV. Then the big man himself appeared. As they waited with guns in hand nades at the ready. Down south street came OLD BURPING BUBBA HIMSELF. LUTHER was the next brave soul 2 stick his head out. But alas 2 no avail. The big man was nadeing like we could all go 2 hell. Take cover all you bitches he let out with a roar. Keep your heads down or you'll get some more. With a wisk of his beard off to cross roads he went. No he really didn't give a shit who was on vent With all the OBC huddled in a room. BUBBA sang out this is your doom. No sooner there when SOTHEREN FRANCE he went. I'll club 1 I’ll club all. Will take all comers just two see you fall. With that all said and half the OBC lying there dead. I've got too be off and have supper in stead. Then as quick as he singed on all that was heard 1 more big BURP then he was gone.

I would like to wish each and everyone a Merry Christmas and the happiest New Year.

Some do not celebrate Christmas but other holidays around this time of year to all of you I wish Great joy in this time of Season. This time of year has be celebrated for over 3000 years. It has only become what it is in the US with in the last 75 years when the book “The night before Christmas” was written. Stores started using Santa’s for selling toys. I remember my Grand Mother saying when she was a little girl (1880’s) in West Texas. She said they had a Cedar Tree for Christmas her dad would go out and cut it and mom would start popping popcorn and sting it make garland. Everyone would have been making items to put on the tree for that night; this was all done on Christmas Eve. (Tidbits I remembered go look it up on the net! Also check out the history channel program “The history of Christmas”).

1944 The execution of Eddie Slovik is authorized

On this day, Gen. Dwight Eisenhower endorses the finding of a court-martial in the case of Eddie Slovik, who was tried for desertion, and authorizes his execution, the first such sentence against a U.S. Army soldier since the Civil War, and the only man so punished during World War II.

Greetings from beneath my XXL Harley-Davidson hat in Jonesborough, Tennessee. Christmas is 3 days away, and I know you all have finished your shopping. Yeah Right! If I have to look at those damn Coke Polar Bears one more time, I know whats getting spread out in front of my fireplace. Comfy! And special thanks go out to Bubba Gump who graced us with this year OBC Christmas card.

Spearheads making some moves again with some changes coming to Alpha 1 platoon. With a few promotions5th of Gin to Sergeant, Suspect to Specialist, Roadkill to Specialist and Pylorus to Private First Class. Their platoon leader, Demosthenes, has also asked to step down and the ole grizzled vet SupaTroopa accepted the offer to take the job and a promotion to Major (no pay increase unfortunately). Congratulations guys!

This just in, on the COD2 front. “I am pleased and proud to be able to announce the promotion of Dragonfly to GENERAL, as he continues is duties as {COD} battalion B Company Commander. Well earned and fine job my brother”.-Da-Kid. I also seen someone pulled Rattler out of moth balls. He will also be joining the COD2 group. Welcome back Rattler!

Battlefield 2 has been coming along very well. DeathTrain has got the battle recorder running, so we are good to go, and ready to launch. Also found this little bit of news

1941 Churchill and Roosevelt discuss war and peace

On this day, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill arrives in Washington, D.C. for a series of meetings with President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on a unified Anglo-American war strategy and a future peace.

Now that the United States was directly involved in both the Pacific and European wars, it was incumbent upon both Great Britain and America to create and project a unified front. Toward that end, Churchill and Roosevelt created a combined general staff to coordinate military strategy against both Germany and Japan and to draft a future joint invasion of the Continent. Roosevelt also agreed to a radical increase in the U.S. arms production program: the 12,750 operational aircraft to be ready for service by the end of 1943 became 45,000; the proposed 15,450 tanks also became 45,000; and the number of machine guns to be manufactured almost doubled, to 500,000.

1945 "Old Blood and Guts" dies

On this day, General George S. Patton, commander of the U.S. 3rd Army, dies from injuries suffered not in battle but in a freak car accident. He was 60 years old.

During World War II, as commander of the U.S. 7th Army, he captured Palermo, Sicily, in 1943 by just such means. Patton's audacity became evident in 1944, when, during the Battle of the Bulge, he employed an unorthodox strategy that involved a 90-degree pivoting move of his 3rd Army forces, enabling him to speedily relieve the besieged Allied defenders of Bastogne, Belgium.

Looks like CSS and company, are the movers and shakers this week.(Hmm Malaci moving and shaking……egad man!) “I would like to say how great it has been this past 10 months in the CSS Battalion and I am amazed at how much we have grown. To help keep the structure strong in {CS} we have added a new Platoon to each of the Companies. Please congratulate these two fine gentlemen for accepting the task to lead the new Platoons. First Tex has been promoted to 2LT and Platoon Leader over Alpha 4th and Freakdaddy has been promoted to 2LT and Platoon Leader over Bravo 4th. Congrats guys and make us proud.” Malaci

There is a Storm on the horizon! And he is working hard on a mod for Spearhead. It’s called the =OBC Real WAR all in one Mod= This mod will include: Almost every stock map converted, every single player map, also converted. A real nice weapons mod has also been added. This will contain a flamethrower, a knife mod and a grenade mod. Several people have already seen the prototype. But have not seen the final product. And yes people he has also been looking at the frame rates, testing different versions to see the results. It should be out in the next week or two. So be looking for it on a server near you.

The Battlefield has been very busy lately Stinky has been lining up several Scrims. He had to cancel one today, because he could not field a team. So BF2 players if you’re looking for some action, go see Stinky. I know several people have been wanting for this, so here is your chance.

1941 Hitler to Halder: No retreat!

On this day, in one of his first acts as the new commander in chief of the German army, Adolf Hitler informs General Franz Halder that there will be no retreating from the Russian front near Moscow. "The will to hold out must be brought home to every unit!"

Halder was also informed that he could stay on as chief of the general army staff if he so chose, but only with the understanding that Hitler alone was in charge of the army's movements and strategies

1941 Hitler takes command of the German army

On this day, in a major shake-up of the military high command, Adolf Hitler assumes the position of commander in chief of the German army.

The German offensive against Moscow was proving to be a disaster. A perimeter had been established by the Soviets 200 miles from the city-and the Germans couldn't break through. The harsh winter weather-with temperatures often dropping to 31 degrees below zero-had virtually frozen German tanks in their tracks. Soviet General Georgi Zhukov had unleashed a ferocious counteroffensive of infantry, tanks, and planes that had forced the flailing Germans into retreat. In short, the Germans were being beaten for the first time in the war, and the toll to their collective psyche was great. "The myth of the invincibility of the German army was broken," German General Franz Halder would write later

Here it is almost Christmas for the ones that do celebrate it, this is a happy time of year. Please in this spirit and as Brothers of OBC remember the ones that are not having it so good.

I came from a clan called The Fighting 61st. We were a small, close-knit group that were together for over four years. I received an email yesterday informing me that one of my good friends from the 61st recently went into the hospital with a brain aneurysm. They ended up doing emergency surgery on him to relieve the pressure around the brain and found a good sized brain tumor attached to his brain stem. The concluded that they cannot remove it so they've decided to try chemo. At this early juncture they're not sure what his prognosis will be: it could take him in a couple of months or he could live to a ripe old age with it still inside his head. He's a recently divorced father of two girls and a wonderful person. If you have the inclination and the time, would you please say a small prayer for him?

"NEWS FLASH" KILO gets loyalty and dedication. Recommended by all of echo, and a great decision that is.

In CSS. Congratulations to Dr.Dirigo for receiving the Outstanding Volunteer Service ribbon for his continual outstanding job as Senior Drill Instructor. Also congratulations to Freakdaddy for receiving the Good Conduct medal for being the fastest working Drill Instructor that I have ever seen. We can’t seem to give him enough recruits to slow him down . And thank you to all the DI’s for their hard work and dedication to Boot Camp. I’m sure there will be more medals soon to come, with this great bunch of folks here in CSS Boot Camp Staff. You all are invaluable assets to this great clan of ours.

I would also like to thank everyone who has been involved in Boot Camp, (in every division, past and present), for their hard work and dedication in the creation and maintenance of Boot Camp.

In BF2 news. Our practice server just got the battle recorder added to it. OBC will now be able to compete in TWL ladder matches. A battle recorder will record the entire match from all players’ views. This was all that was holding us up.

1941 Japan invades Hong Kong

On this day, Japanese troops land in Hong Kong and a slaughter ensues.

A week of air raids over Hong Kong, a British crown colony, was followed up on December 17 with a visit paid by Japanese envoys to Sir Mark Young, the British governor of Hong Kong. The envoys' message was simple: The British garrison there should simply surrender to the Japanese--resistance was futile. The envoys were sent home with the following retort: "The governor and commander in chief of Hong Kong declines absolutely to enter into negotiations for the surrender of Hong Kong. ..."

1941 Commander at Pearl Harbor canned

On this day, Rear Admiral Husband E. Kimmel was relieved of his command of the U.S. Pacific Fleet as part of a shake-up of officers in the wake of the Pearl Harbor disaster.

Admiral Kimmel had enjoyed a successful military career, beginning in 1915 as an aide to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He served admirably on battleships in World War I, winning command of several in the interwar period. At the outbreak of World War II, Kimmel had already attained the rank of rear admiral and was commanding the cruiser forces at Pearl Harbor. In January 1941, he was promoted to commander of the Pacific Fleet, replacing James Richardson, who FDR relieved of duty after Richardson objected to basing the fleet at Pearl Harbor.

1944 Battle of the Bulge

On this day, the Germans launch the last major offensive of the war, Operation Mist, also known as the Ardennes Offensive and the Battle of the Bulge, an attempt to push the Allied front line west from northern France to northwestern Belgium. The Battle of the Bulge, so-called because the Germans created a "bulge" around the area of the Ardennes forest in pushing through the American defensive line, was the largest fought on the Western front.

Violent Mcswifty to Sergeant Major, Rambo to Sergeant First Class, Ethreal Target to Staff Sergeant, Easy Killer to Sergeant, Pink to Corporal and Walnut to Specialist. Congrats too all these people, One for their hard work, and Two, for having to listen to Corsairs bad jokes. (Should get a purple heart). In BF2 news, Drambouie brought to our attention, our very own Super Soldier working hard on a map. We always wondered how he got around so fast. Seems Drambouie was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of him. And he brought us the evidence. If you haven’t seen it before, here you are..

Sure beats Bunny Hopping. Did Super Soldier actually name the Burro "BASH"? Hagarr said it must be because he moves as fleet as if he was wearing Bunny Slippers.

1945 MacArthur orders end of Shinto as Japanese state religion

On this day, General Douglas MacArthur, in his capacity as Supreme Commander of Allied Powers in the Pacific, brings an end to Shintoism as Japan's established religion. The Shinto system included the belief that the emperor, in this case Hirohito, was divine.

Greetings from beneath my XXL Harley-Davidson hat in Jonesborough, Tennessee. How is everyone today? I’m just sitting here drinking a pepsi. Contemplating if it is legal, to use my wife as a mud flap. She did say she likes to travel. And she does have a pretty good grip. More on that story another day.

DragonFly sent me this little tidbit, from out of the bowels of COD2. Looks like several of my old PA guys have gotten a promotion in B1. Admiral Robinson has made Staff Sergeant. Jason Bourne is now a Sergeant and Jonsey is now a Corporal. Dedication is a word that comes to mind, when I hear these guys’ names. Way to go!

In case some of you slackers missed reading the news this past weekend…

CSS is going to have a New Years Smack down event, starting after January 1. All OBC is invited to this New Years Slaying. Rules will be posted after the New Year. Come one, come all to this non stop yuck fest.

Also at the beginning of the year a BF2 5v5 ladder competition within OBC will start. I think this will be a lot of fun. All OBC is invited to play.

1942 Goebbels complains of Italians' treatment of Jews

On this day, Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels records in his journal his contempt for the Italians' treatment of Jews in Italian-occupied territories. "The Italians are extremely lax in their treatment of Jews. They protect Italian Jews both in Tunis and in occupied France and won't permit their being drafted for work or compelled to wear the Star of David."

BF2. The smoke has settled in the EURO vs. USA match. And Euro BF2 road away in victory. Great job guys! The score was First Round 58/0 Second Round 15/0 Both sides had a lot of fun, except when Gunner kept killing everyone on the US J Rumor has it that a rematch is already in the works. Can’t wait to see that one.

We now have 2 practices servers running for BF2. A brand new unranked server in London, for the Euro guys to practice on. Hammer has several promotions in B Company. Trewer Wrath to 1st LT, Carnavore to Master Sergeant, Big Spike, Mad Dog, ArchAngel, DramBouie to Specialist.. Keep up the good work guys and DramBouie. J

At the beginning of the year a BF2 5v5 ladder competition within OBC will start. I think this will be a lot of fun. All OBC is invited to play.

COD2 has updated their stats page again. OpenSlash seems to be right on top of it. Good Job.

CSS is going to have a New Years Smack down event, starting after January 1. All OBC is invited to this New Years Slaying. Rules will be posted after the New Year. Come one, come all to this non stop yuck fest.

On this day, Adolf Hitler declares war on the United States, bringing America, which had been neutral, into the European conflict.

The bombing of Pearl Harbor surprised even Germany. Although Hitler had made an oral agreement with his Axis partner Japan that Germany would join a war against the United States, he was uncertain as to how the war would be engaged. Greetings from beneath my XXL Harley-Davidson hat in Jonesborough, Tennessee. It’s the weekend! Everyone hiding from there wives and kids and the honey-do list, so they can get some killing in? Mines trying to get me to hang Christmas Lights and go to Wal-Mart. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!!!!!!

In Battlefield 2 news today, comes the match we all have been waiting for. Europe Vs North America! Match Time Saturday, December 10^th, 4:00 EST 9:00 GMT. It should be a great match and I can’t wait to see what happens. Come see Super Soldier ride his donkey around the map. Good Luck to both sides.

Our COD2 server is now a multi server. It will be running TDM, Search and Destroy, CTF and Headquarters. Give Luther and his staff feedback on what you think about this. I understand that we should have a rifles only server coming in the near future. So keep watching!! Wow 4 new game types for me to get my ass kicked at. Wahoo!!!!

Also its old news but on 11/22/05 new NVIDIA drivers came out. Suppose to be optimized for COD2. They are version 81.95

In Spearhead News Bubba “The Red Baron” Gump has informed me that their still trying to get the planes a flying. Should be up and soaring as soon as OpenSlash gets the mod a running, AND the Christmas mod is now running on the Dallas 2 server. Thanks Guys!!

Also the Boys in COD2 are excited to announce that they have put together a COD2 team for TWL Ladders. The team will consist of Dragonfly, Luther, Malaci, Quicksilver, Plumley, Jonsey, Madecin, Jason Bourne, and the ever lovable Blackjax (People Magazines winner for "Most Friendly" in a national poll)

They will be competing in 6v6 TDM and a 6v6 CTF team and a 4v4 CTF rifles only. Lets wish them the very best in their climb to the top of the ladders.

Over on the Spearhead side I see Strykers been busy with A2. I'm going to plagiarize him now. I am proud to announce that the following brothers in Ä2 Platoon have received promotions:

On this day, as America's Pacific fleet lay in ruins at Pearl Harbor, President Franklin Roosevelt requests, and receives, a declaration of war against Japan. Leaning heavily on the arm of his son James, a Marine captain, FDR walked haltingly into the House of Representatives at noon to request a declaration of war from the House and address the nation via radio. "Yesterday," the president proclaimed, "December 7, 1941-a date which will live in infamy-the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory."

Roosevelt's 10-minute speech, ending with an oath-"So help us God"-was greeted in the House by thunderous applause and stamping of feet.

In BF2 News If you haven’t figured it out yet, the option to punish has been turned off. Great Idea DeathTrain! That stopped a lot of complaining in the server about getting punished. There’s enough Admins on so any problem children can be dealt with.

Several changes have been made here in OBC, so lets have a round of congrats for Major Tom who has been promoted to 2nd lieutenant and has taken over as platoon leader of D1(BF2)and Robs who has taken second in command and has been promoted to warrant officer 1 well deserved guys. For all the Spearhead junkies out there, I understand there's a new mod where you can fly planes. Just a fair warning, our very own Bubba "The Red Baron" Gump has been learning how to fly. 1941 "A date which will live in infamy"

On this day, in an early-morning sneak attack, Japanese warplanes bomb the U.S. naval base at Oahu Island's Pearl Harbor-and the United States enters World War II. Approximately 360 Japanese warplanes were launched from six aircraft carriers, reinforced by battleships, cruisers, and destroyers. The first dive-bomber was spotted over Pearl Harbor at 7:55 a.m. Hawaii time. It was followed by 200 aircraft, which decimated the American ships anchored there, most of which were only lightly manned because it was Sunday morning. Among the 18 U.S. ships destroyed, sunk, or capsized were the Arizona, Virginia, California, Nevada, and West Virginia. More than 180 planes were destroyed on the ground and another 150 were damaged (leaving but 43 operational). American casualties totaled more than 3,400, with more than 2,400 killed (1,000 on the Arizona alone). The Japanese lost fewer than 100 men.
